GH150/1 170kHz High Temperature AE Sensor with Magnetic Mounting
170 kHz AE sensor for high-temperature structural monitoring up to 350°C, with metal contact surface, integral cable and magnetic mounting options
Description and Features
The GH150/1 (Magnetic) is a high-temperature acoustic emission sensor designed for structural monitoring and NDT applications in harsh industrial environments up to 350°C.
With a 170 kHz resonant frequency, 30 kHz to 400 kHz frequency range, metal contact surface, IP68 protection and integral BNC cable, GH150/1 (Magnetic) is suitable for AE monitoring of pipelines, pressure vessels, plant equipment and other high-temperature metallic structures.
The sensor is designed with a 20cm heat-resistant metal tube and a 3m cable. Its bottom magnetic mounting design and optional clamp or tie installation methods make it practical for temporary testing, field inspection and monitoring applications where standard AE sensors are difficult to install.
When to Use GH150/1 (Magnetic)
GH150/1 (Magnetic) is recommended when the AE sensor needs to be installed on a high-temperature metallic surface where a standard room-temperature AE sensor or a 170°C sensor is not suitable.
Typical use cases include:
- Temporary AE inspection on hot metallic structuresTemporary AE inspection on hot metallic structures
- Field testing where magnetic or clamp mounting is preferred
- Applications requiring a 170 kHz AE sensor with operation up to 350°C
GH150/1 (Magnetic) is NOT recommended for applications where the sensor mounting position is continuously above 350°C. For higher-temperature surfaces, a waveguide-based installation or special high-temperature sensor solution should be evaluated.
For long-term magnetic installation at very high temperature, the actual surface temperature, magnetic holding force, vibration, cable routing and mounting direction should be checked before deployment. If the surface condition is unstable, a custom clamp or free-mounted rod may provide better mechanical reliability.

The 170 kHz resonant frequency makes GH150/1 (Magnetic) suitable for many AE monitoring applications on metallic structures where high-temperature operation, practical installation and reliable signal detection are required.
Compared with broadband AE sensors, a resonant high-temperature AE sensor is often preferred for field monitoring because it provides higher practical sensitivity around the target frequency range and better usability in industrial environments.

Applications
GH150/1 is designed for acoustic emission monitoring in high-temperature industrial environments where stable sensor installation and reliable AE signal detection are required.
Common applications include:
- High-temperature pipeline monitoring
- Pressure vessel AE testing
- Storage tank and plant equipment monitoring
- Valve leakage-related AE monitoring
- Hot metallic structure inspection
- Process equipment condition monitoring
- Temporary field testing and troubleshooting
Installation Notes
Proper installation is important for repeatable AE signal detection, especially in high-temperature applications. See "AE Sensor Coupling and Installation" for detailed information.
Recommended installation practices:
(1) Clean the mounting surface before sensor installation
(2) Confirm that the actual surface temperature is within the sensor’s working range
(3) Use magnetic mounting only when the holding force is sufficient for the surface temperature and vibration condition
(4) Use a custom clamp, cable tie or free-mounted rod when long-term mechanical stability is required
(5) Avoid direct cable tension, sharp bending or mechanical impact near the sensor
(6) Verify the channel response before formal testing or long-term monitoring
For long-term monitoring, regular channel verification or AST testing is recommended to confirm sensor coupling and signal path condition.

FAQ
Q1: What is the maximum working temperature of GH150/1 (Magnetic)?
GH150/1 (Magnetic) can operate from -45°C to 350°C. It is designed for high-temperature acoustic emission monitoring where standard AE sensors are not suitable. If the mounting surface is continuously above 350°C, a waveguide-based installation or special high-temperature AE solution should be considered.
Q2: What is the resonant frequency of GH150/1 (Magnetic)?
GH150/1 (Magnetic) has a resonant frequency of 170 kHz and a frequency range of 30 kHz to 400 kHz. This frequency range is suitable for many AE monitoring applications on metallic structures, including pipelines, pressure vessels and high-temperature plant equipment.
Q3: Can GH150/1 (Magnetic) be magnetically mounted?
Yes. GH150/1 (Magnetic) has a built-in magnetic mounting design and can also be installed with cable tie, custom clamp or free-mounted rod depending on the application. For high-temperature or long-term monitoring, the actual holding force and mechanical stability should be checked before deployment.
Q4: Is GH150/1 (Magnetic) suitable for pressure vessel monitoring?
Yes. GH150/1 (Magnetic) can be used for acoustic emission monitoring of pressure vessels when the sensor installation position is within its working temperature range. Final sensor selection should also consider material, wall thickness, test pressure, attenuation, background noise and monitoring objective.
Q5: Does GH150/1 have a built-in preamplifier?
GNo. GH150/1 is a passive acoustic emission sensor. It should be used with a compatible external AE preamplifier, such as PAS or PAV, and connected to an acoustic emission acquisition system for signal conditioning, data acquisition and analysis.
Q6: How is GH150/1 (Magnetic) different from standard AE sensors?
GH150/1 (Magnetic) is designed for high-temperature applications up to 350°C. It uses a high-temperature metal structure, integral cable and flexible mounting options, making it more suitable for hot industrial surfaces than standard room-temperature AE sensors.
