GH150 260kHz Ultra-High Temperature AE Sensor with Magnetic Mounting

260 kHz AE sensor for ultra-high temperature structural monitoring up to 600°C with metal contact surface, integral cable and magnetic mounting options

Description and Features

The GH150 (Magnetic) is an ultra-high temperature acoustic emission sensor designed for structural monitoring and NDT applications on hot metallic surfaces up to 600°C.

With a 260 kHz resonant frequency, 50–600 kHz frequency range, stainless Invar steel contact surfaces, IP68 protection and an integral BNC cable, GH150 (Magnetic) is suitable for AE monitoring of pressure vessels, boilers, plant equipment and other high-temperature industrial structures.

The sensor is designed with a 20cm heat-resistant metal tube and a 3m cable to help protect the cable connection area during high-temperature testing. Multiple installation options, including magnetic mounting, cable tie, custom clamp and free-mounted rod, can be selected according to the surface condition and monitoring requirement.

When to Use GH150 (Magnetic)

GH150 (Magnetic) is recommended when the AE sensor must be installed on a very hot metallic surface where other high temperature AE sensors, 170°C sensors or 350°C sensors are not suitable.

Typical use cases include:

  • Ultra-high temperature monitoring
  • Boiler and furnace-related structural monitoring
  • Pressure vessel or process equipment testing at elevated temperature
  • Hot valve, flange or metallic component monitoring
  • Temporary AE inspection on high-temperature metal structures
  • Applications requiring a 260 kHz AE sensor for operation up to 600°C

GH150 (Magnetic) is NOT recommended for applications where the mounting position is continuously above 600°C. For higher-temperature surfaces, a waveguide-based installation or special customized AE monitoring solution should be evaluated.

For long-term monitoring at very high temperature, the actual surface temperature, mounting direction, vibration condition, cable routing and mechanical holding method should be checked before deployment. In many high-temperature applications, a custom clamp or free-mounted rod may provide better mechanical stability than simple magnetic mounting.

The 260 kHz resonant frequency makes GH150 (Magnetic) suitable for AE monitoring applications where high-temperature operation and sensitivity to higher-frequency AE activity are required.

Compared with lower-frequency AE sensors, GH150 (Magnetic) is better suited for hot metallic structures where the sensor needs to work close to the source or where high-frequency AE components are important. For long-distance monitoring or highly attenuative structures, sensor spacing and frequency selection should be evaluated before testing.

Applications

GH150 (Magnetic) is designed for acoustic emission monitoring in ultra-high temperature industrial environments where ordinary AE sensors cannot be installed directly.

Common applications include:

  • High-temperature pipeline monitoring
  • Pressure vessel and process equipment testing
  • Boiler and furnace-related structural monitoring
  • High-temperature valve and flange monitoring
  • Hot metallic structure inspection
  • Plant equipment troubleshooting under elevated temperature
  • Temporary field testing on high-temperature structures

Installation Notes

Proper installation is critical for reliable AE signal detection in ultra-high temperature applications. See "AE Sensor Coupling and Installation" for detailed information.

Recommended installation practices:

(1) Confirm the actual surface temperature before sensor installation

(2) Clean the mounting surface to ensure stable acoustic coupling

(3) Select magnetic mounting, cable tie, custom clamp or free-mounted rod according to temperature, vibration and surface condition

(4) For long-term high-temperature monitoring, use a mechanically stable clamp whenever possible

(5) Keep the cable away from direct heat, sharp edges and moving parts

(6) Avoid direct cable tension or sharp bending near the sensor

(7) Verify the channel response before formal testing or long-term monitoring

For long-term monitoring, regular channel verification or AST testing is recommended to confirm sensor coupling and signal path condition.

FAQ

Q1: What is the maximum working temperature of GH150 (Magnetic)?

GH150 (Magnetic) can operate from -45°C to 600°C. It is designed for ultra-high temperature acoustic emission monitoring where standard AE sensors are not suitable. If the sensor mounting position is continuously above 600°C, a waveguide-based or customized installation solution should be considered.

Q2: What is the resonant frequency of GH150 (Magnetic)?

GH150 (Magnetic) has a resonant frequency of 260 kHz and a frequency range of 50 kHz to 600 kHz. This makes it suitable for high-temperature AE monitoring applications where higher-frequency acoustic emission activity needs to be detected on metallic structures.

Q3: Can GH150 (Magnetic) be magnetically mounted?

Yes. GH150 (Magnetic) provides self-magnetic mounting as one installation option. It can also be installed with cable tie, custom clamp or free-mounted rod. For ultra-high temperature or long-term monitoring, the actual holding force, surface condition and vibration environment should be checked before deployment.

Q4: Is GH150 (Magnetic) suitable for pressure vessel monitoring?

Yes. GH150 (Magnetic) can be used for acoustic emission monitoring of pressure vessels or process equipment when the sensor installation position is within its working temperature range. Final selection should also consider material, wall thickness, test pressure, attenuation, background noise and monitoring objective.

Q5: Does GH150 have a built-in preamplifier?

No. GH150 is a passive acoustic emission sensor. It should be used with a compatible external AE preamplifier, such as PAS or PAV, and connected to an acoustic emission acquisition system for signal conditioning, data acquisition and analysis.

Q6: How is GH150 (Magnetic) different from GH150/1 (Magnetic)?

GH150 (Magnetic) is designed for higher-temperature applications up to 600°C and has a 260 kHz resonant frequency. GH150/1 (Magnetic) is designed for applications up to 350°C with a 170 kHz resonant frequency. The best choice depends on surface temperature, target defect type, propagation distance, background noise and installation method.
